8.2 Perpetuity of The Law                                        

 

1. How many lawgivers are there?
James 4:12 There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

 

2. What is said of the steadfastness of God's character?
Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

 

3. How enduring are His commandments?
Psalms 111:7-8
7 The works of His hands are verity and judgment; all His commandments are sure.
8 They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.

 

4. Did Christ come to abolish or destroy the law?
Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

 

5. What does the word 'fulfill' mean where it is used in relation to the prophecies?
Matthew 4:14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

 

6. What does it mean when it is used in reference to the law?
Galatians 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Matthew 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then He suffered him.
James 2:8-9
8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

 

7. What did Christ do with His Father's commandments?
John 15:10 If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love; even as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love.

 

8. If anyone professes to abide in Christ, how should he walk?
1 John 2:6 He that saith He abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.

 

9. What is sin?
1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

 

10. In what condition are all men?
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

 

11. How many are included in the “all” who have sinned?
Romans 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

Romans 3:19 Now we know that what things so-ever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

 

13. Does faith in God make void the law?
Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

 

14. What, more than all else, proves the perpetuity and immutability of the law of God?
1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

 

15. What relation does a justified person sustain to the law?
Romans 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

 

16. Who has the promise of being blessed in his doing?
James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

 

17. By what means can we have passed from death into life?
1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

 

18. And how may we know that we love the brethren?
1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep His commandments.

 

19. What is the love of God?
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous.

 

20. How are those described who will be ready for the coming of Christ?
Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
