6.5 The Kingdom and Activity of the Antichrist                                       

 

1. What is said about the little horn in comparison to the ten horns of the fourth beast of Daniel 7?
Daniel 7:24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

 

2. How would the Papacy, represented by the little horn, compete with the Most High?
Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

 

3. How does Paul describe this same power when he speaks of the man of sin?
2 Thessalonians 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

 

4. How would the little horn treat God's people?
Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
Note: He will wear out the saints of the Most High because of their intolerance toward those who disagree with others. Through wars, crusades, mass murders, inquisitions, and burnings at the stake, Rome has always sought to eradicate dissenters. Consider the terrible persecutions of the Waldenses and Huguenots in France, the infamous St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre, the horrors of Alva in the Netherlands, and the reign of the Bloody Mary in England, where extraordinary scholars such as Tyndale, Ridley, Cranmer, Latimer, Bradford, and others were burned alive for their beliefs. Consider also the inhumane Inquisition in Spain, and Huss and Jerome in Bohemia, who were burned at the stake.

 

5. What else does the prophecy say the little horn would do?
Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
Note: He will seek to change times and law. This shows that this is something he cannot actually accomplish. He will only think he is changing by divine authority, God's law. When we consult the Catholic Catechism, it becomes clear that the Church: - has omitted the Second Commandment - has changed the Fourth Commandment. We read in the Catechism: Sunday is the first day of the week. In the New Law, the Holy Church has singularly dedicated this day to God, instead of the Sabbath (day of rest) that, according to God's commandment, was observed under the Old Law. Although the Ten Commandments, as laws of nature, are unchangeable, the Holy Church could nevertheless make this change. 6. Until when would the saints be delivered into the hands of the little horn?
Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
Daniel 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.

 

7. In what other prophecies is this same era mentioned?
Revelation 12:6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
Revelation 12:14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
Revelation 13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
Revelation 11:2-3
2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

 

8. What length of time is represented by a day in the symbolic prophecy?
Numbers 14:34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
Ezekiel 4:6 And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.
Note: This time period is mentioned seven times in the Scriptures, and the three different terms used there clearly indicate that a prophetic year is counted as 360 days and a month as 30 days, so that we are dealing here with a period of 1260 prophetic days.
One year 360 days = 42 months = 42 x 30 = 1260 days
Two years 720 days
Six months 180 days.
Total 1260 days
The little horn, who would reveal himself powerfully in history, would not exercise a brief reign of 1260 days, but 1260 years. The year 538 marked the beginning of papal rule. Exactly 1260 years later, in 1798, Rome was captured by General Berthier and Pius VI was taken prisoner.

 

9. What will ultimately be done with the rule exercised by the little horn?
Daniel 7:26 But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end.
Note: This signifies the complete end of this power at the end of world history, which will be quickly followed by the second coming of Christ.

 

10. To whom will the kingdom finally be given?
Daniel 7:27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him.
