3.15 Present Truth                                

 

1. By what is a person sanctified?
John 17:17 Sanctify them through Thy truth; Thy word is truth.

 

2. To what knowledge does God want all men to come?
1 Timothy 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

 

3. After receiving a knowledge of the truth, what must one do in order to be sanctified by it?
2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

 

4. What is necessary besides simple belief in the truth?
1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

 

5. What effect does obedience to the truth have?
1 Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

Proverbs 23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

 

7. Does the Bible recognize what might be called “present truth”?
2 Peter 1:12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

 

8. What was the special message for Noah’s day?
Genesis 6:13-14
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

 

9. How did Noah demonstrate his faith in this message?
Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

1 Peter 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that He had said that He would do unto them; and He did it not.
Jeremiah 18:7-10
7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
10 If it do evil in My sight, that it obey not My voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
