1. THE BIBLE AND HOW TO STUDY AND UNDERSTAND IT

1.5 Christ throughout the Bible

1. Of whom, said Christ, do the Scriptures testify?
John 5:39 Search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and they are they which testify of Me.

2. Of whom did Moses and the prophets write?
John 1:45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law and the prophets did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

3. From whose words, said Christ, were the disciples to have learned about concerning His death and resurrection?
Luke 24:25, 26
25 Then He said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into His glory?

4. How did Christ make it clear to them that the Scriptures testify of Him?
Luke 24:27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
Luke 24:44 And He said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the Psalmss, concerning Me.

5. Where in the Bible do we find the first promise of a Redeemer?
Genesis 3:14, 15
14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

6. To whom did this promised Seed refer?

7. Who did God promise to send with Israel to lead them to the promised land?

9. In which prophecy are Christ's life, suffering, and death movingly described?
Isaiah 53:1-12
1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth: He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for He was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was He stricken.
9 And He made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

10. Where is the price of Jesus' betrayal recorded?
Zechariah 11:12 And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.
Matthew 26:15, 16
15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.

11. Where in the Psalms are the words of Christ's death recorded?
Psalms 22:1 To the chief Musician upon Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
Psalms 31:5 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

13. Where else in the Psalms is His resurrection foretold?
Psalms 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt Thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Acts 2:25-31
25 For David speaketh concerning Him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for He is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
27 Because Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt Thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of joy with Thy countenance.
29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, He would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that His soul was not left in hell, neither His flesh did see corruption.

15. How is the second coming of Christ described in the Psalms?

3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.
5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
Psalms 98:8,9
8 Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together
9 Before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.

16. What is Christ for the person who has been recreated in God's image?
Colossians 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
